Ogden Block building up for donation as Calgary makes way for Green Line

As the City of Calgary makes way for a chunk of the Green Line, it’s looking to hand off a two-storey bit of history for relocation.

Offered up for donation is the Ogden Block building.

But to get it, a party would have to move it away from its current spot at 7044 Ogden Rd. S.E.

And they’d have until Nov. 15, to enable the construction of the Green Line southeast project.

According to a city release issued Friday morning, if a party is found, it will receive $50,000 to support this move.

If a party is not found in time, the building will be demolished.

Harrison Clark, city councillor for Ward 9, said this offer is “a unique chance” to “give new life to a building that reflects Ogden’s diverse and layered past.”

Wendy Tynan, director of the Green Line southeast project, called it “a unique chance” to own “a piece of Calgary’s past while we keep the project on schedule.”

The 3,240-square-foot Ogden Block building was built in 1913 and is also known as Hong Lee Laundry and Ogden Laundry.

The Ogden Block building is listed on the city’s website.

According to the city, parties must file a purchaser application form, which is also available on the city’s website.
