These purple rocks are the cause of an overdose alert in Swift Current

Saskatchewan Ministry of Health issued a toxic drug alert for Swift Current after the discovery of purple, rock-like drugs linked to cocaine and meth.

An overdose alert is currently active in the Swift Current area after the discovery of a mystery rock-like substance containing several narcotics.

The alert was issued on May 21 after multiple overdoses in the area required several doses of naloxone.

According to Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Health, affected individuals experience sudden decreased consciousness as well as slow or shallow breathing.

The drug, which was sold as MDMA in the form of purple chunks which the users swallowed, does not contain MDMA, according to the ministry. The samples did test positive for cocaine and methamphetamine.

The presence of fentanyl is suspected but unconfirmed at this time.

The alert will remain in effect until May 28.
