Transcona grass fire under investigation

A wildland fire that burned an acre of land in Transcona is under investigation.

According to the city, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews were called at around 5:45 p.m. Sunday to a vegetation fire in the area of the Transcona Bioreserve Loop.

Crews arrived to find a grass and brush fire engulfing about an acre of land.

Firefighters used handlines and specialized wildland firefighting equipment to contain and extinguish the flames.

The WFPS drone was also launched, with its images used to help crews on the ground find hotspots.

The fire was declared under control just before 6:30 p.m.

The city said no one was hurt and the fire is under investigation.
