Two men shot during overnight fight in Montreal

Two men were shot during a fight involving several people outside a licensed establishment in Montreal.

The incident happened shortly before 1:45 a.m. Sunday in front of the business on Guy Street, near Sainte-Catherine Street, in the Ville-Marie borough. Several people called 911 when the gunshots rang out.

“When the police officers arrive on the scene, they located the two victims, two men aged 26 and 38. They were both conscious and had been shot in the lower body,” said officer Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson with Montreal police (SPVM).

The two men were taken to hospital, and their lives are not in danger.

A security perimeter was set up to protect the scene, and several witnesses were interviewed by police.

“The suspect or suspects fled on foot before the officers arrived (…) There have been no arrests at this time,” Chèvrefils said.

Investigators and forensic technicians were called to the scene to try to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

“Checks will be done regarding possible surveillance cameras located near the scene,” the SPVM spokesperson said.

The investigation is ongoing.
