After winning $40M jackpot, Quebec couple planning more fishing, golfing trips

Joseph Gosselin-Rompré and Mylène Bourgeois were returning home from a recent fishing trip when they got the best surprise of their lives.

The couple from Quebec’s Montérégie region found out they were millionaires after winning the June 26 Lotto Max draw. The jackpot was a whopping $40 million.

“We couldn’t believe it at first,” Gosselin-Rompré said, recalling the amount shown on his cellphone. To make sure his eyes weren’t deceiving him, he went to a retailer to validate the ticket.

Gosselin-Rompré, who is in his 40s, said he now plans to use the new fortune on his favourite hobbies: fishing and golfing. A new boat and maybe even a new home are also in the works.

“This is the second time in just over a month that a Lotto Max jackpot has been won in Québec. Let’s hope this lucky streak continues throughout the summer,” said Isabelle Jean, executive vice-president and chief operating officer of lottery games at Loto-Québec, in a news release.

The winning ticket was bought at a Boni Soir convenience store in Sorel-Tracy. The store will receive a $400,000 commission.
