Search warrant in Toronto leads to arrest in Sarnia fraud case

Charges have been laid after police say a Sarnia business owner was defrauded of $120,000 in October 2025.

According to police, they were notified in January 2026, that the victim sent three transfers to purchase specialized equipment through a website that appeared legitimate.

On June 16, the investigation led police to a Toronto home where officers used a search warrant and seized nearly $45,000 in Canadian cash and $10,000 in U.S. currency.

In addition to the cash, police also seized 46 bank cards, eight cell phones, two laptops, an iPad, jewelry and luxury watches, as well as a briefcase full of fraudulent documents and identification.

A 34-year-old Toronto man has been arrested and charged. A warrant has been issued for a second suspect.

During the investigation, evidence was obtained that the suspects were engaging in criminal activity in other jurisdictions.

Police said the evidence will be provided to other police agencies for further investigation.
