LSRCA: Simcoe shoreline hazard remains ‘high risk’

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) says the local shoreline hazard watch remains at ‘high risk’ despite a drop in water levels.

In an update posted on Sunday, the conservation agency says the latest water level measures in at 219.24 metres (m) which is 13 centimetres (cm) above average for time time of year.

This however comes after a almost two week long decline in water levels. On May 13, water levels were measured at 219.32, eight millimetres higher.

“These higher-than-average water levels are causing continued flooding in some areas and are posing a significant risk of flooding along the Lake Simcoe Shoreline,” the LSRCA said its update.

The organization claims flooding is already occurring in low shoreline areas in like Innisfil, Georgina, Ramara, Barrie and Orillia.

The risk remains high as water levels are expected to remain above normal for the coming weeks, while also being subject to rainfall.

Residents are reminded to be careful around bodies of water, especially so with children or pets.

A shoreline hazard watch rating of ‘high risk’ remains in effect until June 12, or otherwise updated.
