Surge return home to WinSport still searching for first victory of 2026 season

The Calgary Surge host their home opener Thursday night at WinSport against Scarborough.

The Calgary Surge host their home opener Thursday hoping that some home cooking will bring them a win.

The Surge started the 2026 season with three road games, and have lost them all -- by five to the Ottawa Blackjacks, by 18 to the Brampton Honey Badgers and this past Sunday, by 10 to the Fraser Valley (Vancouver) Bandits.

Thursday night, the Surge take on the Scarborough Shooting Stars at WinSport, where they’ll hope to put up their first ‘W’ of the season.

The Surge may have fallen short so far in 2026, but they’re getting strong numbers from returning point guard Evan Gilyard II, who is averaging 23.7 points per game,

Calgarian Olumide Adelodun is also back for his second year and is off to a strong start, averaging 16.7 points a game.

Another popular member of the Surge, Sean Rugzy Miller-Moore is back as well but has yet to play a game.

Following their Thursday home opener, the Surge will head up the QEII Sunday to take on their provincial rivals the Edmonton Stingers in Red Deer at the Marchant Crane Centrium.

The Stingers are also off to a sputtering 1-3 start.

Tickets are also on sale for the Surge 2 Stampede on July 9, when the club takes on the Bandits at the Saddledome.
