WPS calls for driver involved in fatal pedestrian crash to come forward

The Windsor Police Service is urging the driver involved in a fatal crash that killed a 65-year-old woman to come forward.

On Wednesday around 10 p.m., police were called to a two-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 1600 block of Tecumseh Road East.

Police said the woman was crossing the street mid-block, when she was hit by a vehicle. The impact threw her into the opposite lane, causing her to be hit by a second vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle stayed on scene, but officers said the driver of the second vehicle did not. They have yet to be identified.

The vehicle is believed to be a dark-coloured SUV with a rear window spoiler or wing. It was headed eastbound during the incident.

“Investigators recognize that this was a traumatic and fast-moving event, and it is possible the driver did not immediately realize what had occurred,” the WPS said.

“However, under Ontario law, any driver involved in a collision must remain at the scene. Police are urging the driver to do the right thing and come forward.”

The investigation is ongoing.
