FIFA Fan Festival in Vancouver packed for Canada’s last World cup match

The FIFA Fan Festival in Vancouver was packed to the brim as Canada supporters watched their squad take on Morocco in an elimination match.

Playing in Houston, Canada fell 3-0 to a heavily favourited Moroccan squad after coming out strong in the first half, but fans cheered their team on from the first whistle to the last.

Fans were seen filling buses and SkyTrains on the way to watch parties around the city as they looked to cheer on a Canadian team that made it further into the FIFA World Cup than any had before, fighting their way to the round of 16.

CTV News learned the Fan Festival was packed by 8 a.m., and security closed off access to the neighbouring amphitheatre before 9 a.m. because it filled up so fast.

Conditions were similar elsewhere on the Lower Mainland, with the Canada Soccer House in North Vancouver reaching capacity just after 10 a.m.

While this is Canada’s last match of the tournament, soccer fans can look forward to another 2026 FIFA World Cup match being played in Vancouver, this time seeing Switzerland and Columbia heading to the city for a round of 16 tilt of their own.

Kickoff is scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m.
