Ottawa police pull 31 commercial vehicles from the road following safety blitz

The Ottawa Police Service says officers pulled more than 30 vehicles from the road after a commercial vehicle safety blitz this week.

Officers with the Ottawa police, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Ministry of Transportation conducted 75 vehicle inspections at the Strandherd Park and Ride on Monday.

Police say the inspections led to 68 charges, and 31 vehicles being pulled from the roads.

“Several vehicles were removed from the road due to safety concerns, including issues with steering, brakes, driver’s licences, load security, tires, and dangerous goods compliance,” the Ottawa Police Service said in a statement to CTV News Ottawa.

“Charges were laid for a range of offences, including operating a vehicle with a major defect, missing or expired annual inspections, failure to complete daily trip inspections, documentation violations, CVOR-related offences (commercial vehicle operator’s registration), load security issues, overwidth or overweight vehicles, TSSEA (Towing and Storage Safety Enforcement Act) violations, and improper or invalid driver’s licences.”

One driver was stopped by OPP officers and charged with impaired driving, police said, which resulted in the vehicle being impounded.
