OPP identify remains found near Kapuskasing

OPP have identified a body found in a field near Kapuskasing last week as missing woman, Emily-Anne Larouche, age 33.

Ontario Provincial Police have identified human remains discovered in a field near Kapuskasing as those of a local woman reported missing earlier this year.

Police say the remains were found on April 21 after police responded to a report of the discovery in a field near the northern Ontario community.

Deceased identified

“A post-mortem examination conducted by the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Sudbury identified the remains as Emily-Anne Larouche, also known as Mimi, aged 33 of Kapuskasing,” OPP said in a news release Wednesday.

Police said Larouche was reported missing on Jan. 25.

According to previous OPP social media posts, the 33-year-old was seen on Jan. 22 on McPherson Avenue in Kapuskasing.

Cause of death under investigation

“The cause of death remains under investigation,” the OPP said.

Police said the ongoing investigation is being conducted under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

“Investigators believe this was an isolated incident with no signs of a broader threat,” OPP said.
