French-language Quebec election debate to air on Crave, Noovo on Sept. 16

A French-language leaders’ debate is set to be broadcast live on Noovo Info and the Crave streaming platform on Sept. 16, a few weeks before the Quebec provincial election.

Bell Media made the announcement on Thursday, noting that all the party leaders have confirmed their attendance.

Host Michel Bherer is slated to lead the evening, welcoming Premier and Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) Leader Christine Fréchette, Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) Leader Charles Milliard, Parti Québécois (PQ) Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondo, Québec Solidaire (QS) Leader Ruba Ghazal and Quebec Conservative Party (PCQ) Leader Éric Duhaime.

The debate is expected to start at 8 p.m., modelled after the show Les Débatteurs de Noovo, and will be available for free on Crave.

Voting intentions

According to the latest poll by Synopsis, the PQ remains in first place with 31 per cent of voting intentions.

However, a race seems to be taking shape between the PLQ and the ruling CAQ, garnering 25 per cent and 21 per cent of voter support, respectively.

According to the poll, the PCQ could take fourth place in the election race, dropping one percentage point to 12 per cent.

For its part, Québec Solidaire saw an increase in voting intentions, now at 11 per cent.

All the same, there remains a certain degree of hesitation among Quebecers.

The poll finds that 23 per cent of respondents were unsure when asked who would be best suited to lead Quebec.

Of the leaders, 24 per cent of those surveyed believe Paul St-Pierre Plamondon would be best to govern, while 21 per cent responded that Fréchette was most qualified.

Fifteen per cent named Milliard, while Duhaime ranked fifth (10 per cent) followed by Ruba Ghazal at six per cent.

Quebecers are slated to go to the polls on Oct. 5.
