Protein-packed meals, gut health products featured at Montreal health food expo

The newest food trends are being showcased at the 29th edition of the “Manger Santé et Vivre Vert Expo” at Montreal’s Palais de Congrès.

The expo has 300 exhibitors and most are giving out samples. New discoveries here include matcha-collagen drinks, organic truffle salt, and black garlic mayo.

Customers can try before they buy onsite and even speak to the producers directly.

“This is the place to meet the people who are behind the products. Passionate people that would promote quality, innovative products,” said the event coordinator, Jacques Landry.

That’s what keeps Audrey-Anne Young coming to visit every year.

“It’s just so much better than just grocery shopping. Now, you’re really getting to know the product and the people,” she said.

Protein is selling like hotcakes. Plus, cooking workshops help people make meal plans with your protein, too.

Digestive health is also a popular trend. Mr. Regular is a drinkable mix of protein and fibre combined.

“No sugar and calories. And we also have a version that has prebiotics. Prebiotics are great for feeding your gut bacteria and keeping your gut microbiome in great health. So you’re able to keep good bathroom habits,” said start-up founder Christian Larose.

Speaking of good habits — waste is managed responsibly at the expo. Landry said all of the items from exhibitors are compostable. Thousands of sample cups are sorted by hand and composted in an effort to be eco-friendly.

Expo Manger Santé et Vivre Vert is open at the Palais de Congrès until Sunday at 6 p.m.
