Police investigate ‘serious’ two-vehicle collision in Cambridge

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a serious two-vehicle collision in Cambridge that sent three people, including two children, to hospital.

Police said emergency crews responded just before 11:45 a.m. Monday to the intersection of Elgin Street North and Ferguson Avenue for a crash involving an Audi SUV and a Honda sedan.

The driver of the Honda, a 37-year-old Cambridge man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Two children who were passengers in the vehicle were also transported to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Audi, a 72-year-old man, was not reported injured.

Police said the intersection was closed for several hours while the Traffic Services Unit investigated.

As a result of the investigation, the 37-year-old driver of the Honda has been charged with improper signal and two counts of failing to properly secure child passengers.

The 72-year-old driver of the Audi has been charged with failing to yield to through traffic on a highway.

“Police remind caregivers that ensuring child seats are correctly installed and used according to manufacturer guidelines helps reduce the risk of injury in the event of a collision,” police said in a media release.
