Man has vehicle seized after attempting to order burger while intoxicated: Red Deer RCMP

Mounties say they have seized a man’s vehicle after he attempted to order a burger at a fast-food restaurant in downtown Red Deer while drunk.

Officers received a report shortly after 4 a.m. on April 19 from a man who said staff at the restaurant were demanding he leave even though he did nothing wrong, adding he had driven 35 minutes to get a burger.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, officers located the caller who was sitting in a car.

While speaking with officers, the man admitted to being intoxicated and said he was waiting for police to arrive as he still wanted a burger.

Officers then spoke with restaurant staff who said they explained to the man that their systems were down and they were unable to serve him.

Investigation led police to determine the man was the driver of the car and demanded he provide a breath sample after observing signs of intoxication.

The man, a 38-year-old resident of Sylvan Lake, refused to provide a sample and was issued an immediate roadside sanction vehicle and his car was seized.

RCMP are reminding drivers to plan ahead and arrange a designated driver if you have consumed alcohol or any other intoxicating substances.
