‘Loss of vehicle control’: Thousands of Toyotas recalled in Canada

Toyota has announced a recall for more than 100,000 vehicles in Canada due to an issue with the suspension arm which could lead to loss of control while driving.

The recall notice was posted on Transport Canada first in August 2012 and later updated last Friday.

“On some vehicles, if the rear wheel alignment toe adjustment locking nuts are improperly tightened when an alignment is performed in the field, backlash may develop in the threaded portion of the suspension arm (shaft and turnbuckle), followed by the formation of rust,” the notice said.

“If this occurs, threads may wear, causing the arm to separate which could result in loss of vehicle control.”

Vehicles affected by the recall include the following:

• Toyota Lexus – Model Number HS 250h, manufactured in 2010
• Toyota RAV4 models manufactured in the years 2006 to 2011

Customers are advised that the dealers will inspect the equipment and verify the tightening torque of the lock nuts, or replace the arms, as necessary.

There have been multiple recalls associated with vehicles from Toyota since the beginning of 2026.

In March, the same carmaker initiated a recall for nearly 40,000 Toyota Highlander vehicles stating an issue of improper manufacturing, where the seatback recliners were in danger of unlocking and potentially moving in the event of a crash.

Toyota recalled nearly 20,000 Prius models in February due to the rear doors potentially being at a risk of opening when driving.

In January, the automaker issued a recall for more than 12,000 Tundra trucks due to an issue with the rear-view cameras.
