Special weather statement issued as Huntsville braces for 5 cm of snow Friday

Residents in Huntsville are waking up to a burst of winter weather Friday, with snow anticipated throughout the morning.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement at 5 a.m., warning of snowfall amounts reaching up to five centimeters.

The national weather agency said roads may become slippery, and conditions could deteriorate during the morning commute.

The snow is expected to taper off by noon, followed by cloudy skies and a 30 per cent chance of rain showers later in the day.

Winds could hit 15 kilometres an hour, with temperatures reaching a high of 6 C. Wind chill values near -4 C will make it feel colder early in the day.

The night will bring cloudy skies with a 30 per cent chance of rain showers, transitioning to a chance of flurries overnight.
