Suspected crack cocaine and wad of cash seized in Barrie traffic stop, police say

A 40-year-old Gravenhurst man is facing multiple drug-related charges after an early-morning traffic stop in Barrie’s east end.

It happened on Tuesday around 1:30 a.m. near Duckworth Street and Grove Street East, after police say a woman was caught driving through a red light.

During the stop, officers reportedly spotted a white powdery substance and suspected drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

All three passengers, including the driver, were arrested at the scene.

Investigators say they later seized a large quantity of suspected crack cocaine and cocaine, over $1,400 in Canadian cash and other drug paraphernalia.

A man has since been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The driver, a 46-year-old Scarborough woman, has also been charged with failing to stop at a red light and three counts of driving while under suspension.

Police say the remaining riders were released without charges.
