Fire ratings low across most of cottage country this weekend

Firing ratings for much of cottage country, including Bracebridge, Muskoka and Gravenhurst are set to low ahead of the Victoria Day long weekend.

Bracebridge

Although the rating is low, fire bylaws for fire are still in place for Bracebridge. Residents are reminded that open air burning between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. is prohibited by the town from April 1, to Oct. 31. Town bylaw also prohibits firework detonation at all times, other than Victoria Day, Canada day, or one day immediately after those two holidays.

Muskoka

In Muskoka, daytime burning is permissible while the rating is low, but only with a valid open-air fire permit. Similarly, small, contained fires are permitted during the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. the following morning, no permits required.

Gravenhurst

Despite a low fire rating in Gravenhurst, the town says daytime burning from April 1 to Oct. 31 is still prohibited. However residents are cleared to go ahead with fires they have been municipally licensed for.

Huntsville

No daytime burning is allowed in Huntsville, despite the low fire rating posted by the town.
