Pickup driver busted for burnouts

Doing donuts may seem fun - until it comes with tickets and a 7-day impound

What may have seemed like harmless fun in a gravel parking lot near Langford Parkway ended with hefty fines, a vehicle impound, and a mandatory mechanical inspection for one young driver.

West Shore RCMP say a traffic unit officer spotted a pickup truck “doing donuts” Thursday in a gravel lot near Langford Parkway.

In a social media post, police said the driver, who held an N licence, was issued several tickets after officers stopped the vehicle.

The driver received a $368 ticket for driving without due care and attention, along with a $109 fine for violating licence restrictions by carrying too many passengers. Officers also issued a $109 ticket for failing to have a driver-side mirror.

RCMP said the pickup was impounded for seven days under B.C.’s stunt-driving rules.

Police also served the driver with a notice and order requiring the truck to undergo a full mechanical inspection because of safety concerns with the vehicle.

West Shore RCMP are reminding drivers that risky behaviour behind the wheel can carry serious consequences.

“Doing donuts may seem fun, until it comes with tickets and a seven-day impound,” the detachment wrote on X.

Stunt driving penalties in B.C. can include steep fines, towing and impound costs, higher insurance premiums, and possible licence suspensions.

West Shore RCMP did not say whether any additional enforcement action is being considered.
