Bracebridge OPP searching for 67-year-old man who fell overboard

Provincial police say they are searching for a man who went overboard near Sandy Bay in Bracebridge.

According to Bracebridge OPP, officers responded to a distress call from a boater on Wednesday around 5:45 p.m.

According to the boater, a person had fallen overboard out of their vessel and did not resurface.

Police say a couple had been returning to Bracebridge in their boat in the area of Sandy Bay, near Bowyers Beach on Lake Muskoka when the weather changed suddenly.

The change in conditions made navigation difficult, police say.

One of the people on board, a 67-year-old man, fell out of the vessel and struggled in the water, according to police.

OPP say nearby residents responded to the call and attended the location in their own boats to help search for the man, but to no avail.

As of Thursday morning, the OPP say the underwater search and recovery unit is assisting with the search.
