Are young drivers not getting the ‘no impaired driving’ message?

Four 20-somethings and a 31-year-old were all busted on impaired driving charges across the map in Adjala-Tosorontio, New Tecumseth and Essa Township.

Provincial police were called by a Tottenham business on March 23 about a possibly impaired driver to whom they had denied service.

Police found the 31-year-old Tottenham man behind the wheel and laid impaired driving charges.

Three days later shortly after 12:30 a.m., the Nottawasaga OPP heard about a suspected drunk driver heading home. A 22-year-old Alliston man was charged with impaired driving offences.

On March 31 shortly after 11:30 p.m., police were on Highway 89 in Adjala-Tosorontio when they stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. During the stop, the officer believed the driver to be impaired and began an impaired investigation. A 21-year-old Toronto man was charged with an impaired driving offence and an improper number plate light.

On April 5 shortly after 1 a.m. police were conducting patrols in Angus when they observed a vehicle idling in a parking lot. Police say the driver appeared to be slumped over at the wheel or attempting to conceal themselves from police. The officer spoke with a young man and detected an odour of alcohol. The officer determined a 25-year-old Angus man was impaired and charged him accordingly.

Last Tuesday, just before 2 a.m. police were on patrol in Alliston when they found a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road on Young Street.

When police approached the driver side of the vehicle, multiple containers of alcohol were observed inside the vehicle and an impaired investigation began.

A 21-year-old man from Mulmur has been charged with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol
• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
• Drive motor vehicle - no licence
• Fail to surrender insurance card

All five accused parties had their drivers’ licences suspended for 90 days, had their vehicles impounded for seven days and were released with a future court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford to answer to the charges.
