Human remains found after Fredericton fire in March identified as 50-year-old woman

Human remains found following a structure fire in Fredericton in March have been identified as those of a 50-year-old woman from the city.

The Fredericton Police Force said the New Brunswick Coroner’s Service has identified the woman as Anne Victoria Martin-McKay.

“An autopsy has been completed. While there are no indications of foul play at this stage, the cause of death remains under investigation,” said police in a statement Monday.

The Fredericton Police Force and Fredericton Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in the woods behind Two Nations Crossing – an office building located on the north side of the Saint John River – around 5:40 p.m. on March 26.

They found a small structure engulfed in flames when they arrived. Firefighters found the remains inside the structure.

No other details have been released at this time.
