A 20-year-old Winnipeg man is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly mistreating two dogs in his care.

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) said officers responded to the 300 block of Edmonton Street around 1:50 p.m. Friday following a report that the suspect was seen “repeatedly and violently” pulling on a dog’s leash near Central Park.

Police found the man at a nearby apartment and took him into custody without incident.

Two dogs, who police said weren’t injured, were in the suite and turned over to the city’s Animal Services Agency.

The 20-year-old man is charged with animal cruelty and failure to comply with conditions of a release order. He was released on the condition he cannot possess animals.
