A glance at the calendar will tell you Tuesday is Feb. 11, also known as 211 Day.

Numerical puns aside – it’s an occasion dedicated to raising awareness about the United Way’s 211 services.

Landmarks like the Winnipeg sign at The Forks and the Esplanade Riel Pedestrian Bridge will be lit up in red to mark the day and raise awareness of the service.

The phone line operates around the clock and in over 200 languages. The confidential service provides Canadians with information about essential, non-emergency government and community services like food banks, income assistance programs and legal resources.

According to United Way Winnipeg, 211 Manitoba received 14,375 calls last year and Manitobans searched for help 207,153 times on its website. Its database of help has 5,200 programs and services and 2,500 agencies.
