Siloam Mission is running low on some urgently needed items amid a frosty cold snap in Winnipeg.
The organization said it has welcomed about 1,300 as of late, and extreme cold can cause a run on supplies.
“Because of that, we are depleting rather quickly,” said Bill Heil, Siloam Mission’s supervisor of clothing and hygiene.
The non-profit tries to keep its clothing room fully stocked so folks can choose whatever they want, free of charge. Most items are donated while some things, like underwear, are purchased when they have the funds.
Heil said winter wear is currently in demand, like coats, mittens, boots, and socks.
The organization also needs bar soap and body wash, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, new adult-sized underwear, combs, juice boxes, and granola bars.
Underwear and hygiene products must be new and sealed. A gift-in-kind receipt can be issued for all new items purchased, the organization said. For this, you must have the original receipt.
All donations can be dropped off at Siloam Mission at 300 Princess Street at its Henry Avenue entrance. They are open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Volunteers are also needed in the non-profit’s clothing department and kitchen, Heil said.
“We have a lot of people in need. Anything helps.
