The University of Winnipeg is making some major cuts, including to its English language program and women’s soccer team, as it deals with financial challenges.

In a letter to students, the schools said enrolment in its English language program has dropped amid changes to federal policies on international students. It added that the program is no longer financially viable.

The U of W notes individual English language programs currently in progress will run to completion; however, no additional programs will be launched.

The letter also says that the women’s soccer program will not return for the 2025 season, and that the school is working with affected athletes to provide support.

The university described these changes as “regrettable,” adding that they are necessary to ensure U of W remains financially stable.
