Winnipeggers dropping in to the Bear Den Thursday left with a new coif.
The Spence Neighbourhood Association offers free haircuts to community members on the last Thursday of every month at the Bear Den - the organization’s McGee Street drop-in space offering housing, addictions, and cultural supports.
Organizers hope it will boost community members’ self-esteem and confidence as they step out into the world.
“People come for haircuts and they can go for interviews. They feel more prepared and more able to be presentable,” said Jasmyne Jones, Bear Den housing supports coordinator.

The organization’s homeless outreach coordinator Ian is currently tasked with snipping and styling their members’ ‘dos, but the organization is looking to beef up its roster.
“If anyone would like to come and volunteer their time and give haircut services to our participants, that would be great,” said Jasmine Brine, the non-profit’s director of programming.
