Senior injured in Skywalk assault near downtown Winnipeg library

Published:

Winnipeg police say a woman in her 70s was assaulted by an unknown man while walking in the Skywalk Friday morning.

The woman told police she was walking through the overpass with a co-worker around 10 a.m. As they neared the Millennium Library and the Donald Street overpass, the woman said she moved to the side to avoid a man walking towards her.

She alleged the man randomly body-checked her, pushing her to the ground. As she fell, she said she hit a window and a railing, injuring her upper body.

Off-duty police saw the incident and arrested the man after a brief struggle.

A 49-year-old Winnipeg man was charged with assault causing bodily harm. He was detained in custody and the charges haven’t been tested in court.
