Two people were pronounced dead on scene following a crash on a southeast Manitoba highway.

RCMP officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 12, about 30 kilometers south of Steinbach, at around 9:25 a.m. Sunday morning.

“Investigators believe a minivan, travelling north on Highway 12, attempted to pass a semi-trailer when it collided head-on with a southbound SUV,” RCMP said in a news release.

The 76-year-old man driving the minivan and a 72-year-old female passenger were killed in the crash. A 37-year-old male passenger was taken to hospital in serious condition.
