Murray Sinclair to be honoured at museum gala

The late Murray Sinclair is set to be honoured at a museum gala this spring.

The Manitoba Museum made the announcement Tuesday, naming Sinclair as the distinguished honouree at its annual tribute gala. The event is set to be held April 17, 2025.

In a release, the museum said Sinclair is being honours for his contributions to justice, reconciliation and the preservation of Indigenous knowledge and cultures in Canada.

Sinclair served as a former judge, senator, and chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission into residential schools.

“His unwavering commitment to truth, reconciliation, and education shaped the Museum’s work and helped to transform many of our galleries,” the museum’s CEO Dorota Blumczyńska said in the release.

“In his memory, we will continue to inspire discovery and understanding of Manitoba’s many diverse cultures and vibrant heritage. His is a light that will forever shine.”

Sinclair died in November at the age of 73.
