Winnipeg’s infamous Manwin Hotel now up for sale

Published:

A notorious hotel in downtown Winnipeg has hit the market months after the remaining tenants were told to leave.

Over the weekend, the Manwin Hotel was put up for sale for just under $2.8 million.

A vacate order was issued in January stating building and fire safety bylaw violations went unaddressed.

The order was appealed by the owner, but it was upheld at committee.

During the appeal process, the property and development committee heard the hotel was only supposed to have 24 suites, but there were 35 inside, and no permits were issued for the extra suites.

There were also pictures of parts of the ceiling missing, a window boarded up, drywall missing in one suite, and electrical wires hanging in the middle of a room.

At the time, there were up to 12 people living in the hotel, and they were all forced to leave.

The Manwin was built in 1882 and had become the scene of numerous violent crimes over the years, as well as fires inside.

The listing for the hotel said there is electricity, heat, and water. It also notes the outstanding work orders for the building could be fixed for $500,000 or less.
