Man arrested in connection with Winnipeg retail theft spree

Winnipeg police have arrested a 23-year-old man wanted in connection with a spree of retail thefts believed to have netted tens of thousands of dollars in stolen goods.

Police say the arrest stemmed from a stop they made Tuesday at a home in the 200 block of Furby Street on an “unrelated matter.”

Officers arrived to find a man in medical distress. He was given medical care, at which point police discovered he was wanted on nine outstanding arrest warrants.

Police say the warrants stem from a spate of incidents at stores in CF Polo Park from May 15 to Oct. 5. Investigators believe the same suspect stole a slew of merchandise from the mall with a total estimated value of $20,300.

A 23-year-old man faces a number of charges, including theft, identity fraud and failure to comply with release orders.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

He was detained in custody.
