6 rescued from window during apartment fire in Winnipeg

Six people have been taken to the hospital following a trio of Winnipeg fires, including one involving a rescue through a window.

The fires happened in an 11-hour span, with the most recent one taking place around 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday at an apartment on Redwood Avenue.

When the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) got to the scene, crews found smoke coming from the building and several occupants who needed help getting out.

Firefighters rescued six people through a window, while other crew members worked to extinguish the flames. The fire was under control by 8:10 a.m.

Paramedics assessed eight people at the scene, with three being taken to the hospital in unstable condition.

The City of Winnipeg’s emergency social services team provided support for residents.

St. Boniface apartment fire

Less than 12 hours earlier, WFPS responded to a blaze in the 400 block of Langevin Street just after 8:20 p.m. on Monday. Crews had the fire under control by around 9:15 p.m.

Everyone inside the building got out safely, however, three people were taken the hospital in unstable condition.

The City of Winnipeg’s emergency social services team provided support for displaced residents, while the Animal Services Agency helped any pets affected by the fire.

Tuesday morning fire

Just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday, the WFPS responded to a fire at a mixed residential and commercial building in the 200 block of Polson Avenue.

When firefighters got to the scene, they found smoke coming from the structure. Crews had the fire under control by 6:25 a.m.

All occupants got out of the building before crews arrived. No one was hurt.

The city’s emergency social services team provided help to displaced tenants.

The causes of the three fires are under investigation. There are no damage estimates currently.
