When it comes to freezing temperatures in Manitoba, there seems to be no end in sight.

Early Sunday morning, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued several extreme cold warnings in northern, western, and southern parts of the province, with wind chill values ranging between -40 and -50.

Southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg, could see some light snow during the day, with a high of -21 C. While ECCC said the wind chill values may fluctuate throughout the day, they’re expected to reach -44 overnight.

The reprieve isn’t expected until later in the week – Saturday could see a high of -3 C, with a mix of sun and cloud.

Moving north, many regions can expect wind chills of up to -50 throughout the long weekend. Areas like The Pas also won’t see warmer weather until the weekend, with highs of -8 C and -3 C on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

ECCC encouraged Manitobans to bundle up and dress appropriately for the extreme cold, as well as limiting time outdoors to decrease the risks of hypothermia and frost bite.
