Colleen Bready’s forecast: Stagnant conditions before a wintry shift

Hit the repeat button; there is no significant change in weather conditions across most of Manitoba and northwestern Ontario on Thursday.

Much like we saw Wednesday, expect cloudy skies, a chance of flurries and gusty northwest winds in Winnipeg and across southern Manitoba.

Daytime highs, though, are getting colder as the week progresses. Temperatures will reach between -7 C and –3 C on Friday afternoon.

Further east, conditions are similar across northwestern Ontario, save for a higher chance of flurries flying.

Conditions across northern Manitoba are more mixed. Sunshine in Thompson early Thursday afternoon will give way to cloudy skies. Expect snow in Churchill and Gillam.

Forecast daytime highs this afternoon range from –4 C in Gillam and Shamattawa to -6 C around The Pas.

Lake-effect snow is still expected southeast of the Manitoba lakes.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says a notable band of snow will likely develop off of the north basin of Lake Winnipeg, then travel through The Narrows and parts of the lake’s south basin, and on to the Pinawa area.

The weather agency says snow is also possible off Lakes Manitoba and Winnipegosis.
