It is shaping up to be a pleasant late-February day Tuesday across southern Manitoba.
Temperatures will soar above the freezing mark and above normal for this time of year, thanks to mild Pacific air in the province.
In Winnipeg’s case, the normal high for the end of February is -6 C. Tuesday’s forecast high is 4 C - 10 degrees above normal.
Most areas across the south will also enjoy a nice mix of sun and clouds.
Most northern regions will see a dusting of snow Tuesday afternoon. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecasts up to two cm of snowfall in areas.
The most northern areas will be considerably colder Tuesday afternoon, with highs in the -20s, than regions closer to central Manitoba, where temperatures are considerably warmer.
For the most part, snow will end by this evening in the north before another round of snow arrives on Wednesday. ECCC said tomorrow’s low pressure system could bring two to five cm, considerably less than was initially forecast.
Conditions remain mild Tuesday night across southern regions. The southwest could see fog patches develop overnight into Wednesday morning, which could reduce visibility for drivers.
Here in Winnipeg, we’ll see increasing clouds throughout Tuesday night.
Ahead on Wednesday, there is a low chance that Winnipeg could be grazed by snow showers in the afternoon, courtesy of the low pressure system passing further north.
There is a greater chance of rain or snow in the city on Thursday night, possibly turning to flurries on Friday morning.
Sunshine returns on Saturday, the first day of March – and the first day of meteorological spring.
