Get ready for a wild weather ride for the rest of this week in Manitoba.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) ended an extreme cold warning in southwestern Manitoba on Tuesday, courtesy of a low pressure system moving into the northern part of the province.
Milder air accompanying the low will bring more bearable highs in the mid-minus teens in the southwest on Tuesday afternoon.
Conditions in the southeast, including Winnipeg, will be slightly colder.
As the low approaches, snow will move into northern Manitoba this evening, then spread southeast throughout the night.
ECCC forecasts 2 to 5 cm of snow for much of northern and eastern Manitoba. Snow will taper to flurries on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, south winds will strengthen overnight across the south, which will cause temperatures to rise overnight. Blowing snow is likely overnight in the southeast.
Be prepared for a steep temperature swing on Wednesday with daytime highs at or above the freezing mark across the south and parts of the north.
Many southern areas, including Winnipeg and parts of the northwest like The Pas and Flin Flon are forecast to reach 1 C.
Conversely, other regions in the north will see temperatures falling Wednesday afternoon.
ECCC said another low will develop on Thursday in north-central Alberta that will spread 10 to 20 cm of snow across the northern Prairies.
The agency expects snow will reach west-central Manitoba Thursday afternoon, then spread across central regions into Friday.
Once the system moves on, temperatures will plummet in its wake across Manitoba heading into the weekend.
