As much as 10 to 20 cm of total snowfall is expected across the warned regions by Thursday.
Areas not under the warning are also expected to receive several centimetres of snowfall, including Winnipeg.
Although snow missed Winnipeg on Wednesday morning, it is expected intermittently this afternoon before intensifying this evening. ECCC forecasts 5 cm of snowfall tonight for the city and nearby communities, including Steinbach.
Five to 10 cm of snowfall is forecast Wednesday afternoon for Brandon, with another 2 to 4 cm tonight.
According to ECCC, light, fluffy snow will continue overnight across the south before tapering off to light flurries on Thursday in Manitoba.
Winds are light on Wednesday, so blowing snow is not a concern for now. However, west winds are expected to strengthen overnight in the southwest, which could produce widespread blowing snow across the region on Thursday.
West winds are forecast to strengthen in Winnipeg closer to the start of the commute on Thursday morning.
Sunshine returns on Friday through the weekend when daytime highs will be colder, only reaching the low -20s by early next week.
