Colleen Bready’s forecast: A bitterly cold start to February

Published:

Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for Feb. 3, 2025.

It is a cold start to this first full week of February in Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.

Bitterly cold arctic air in the southwest on Monday has triggered an extreme cold warning issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) for Dauphin, Riding Mountain National Park and many surrounding communities.

The weather agency said dangerous wind chill values of -40 or colder will happen over the next few days. ECCC also noted that areas between the international border and the Trans-Canada Highway won’t be quite cold enough to require a warning early Tuesday morning thanks to snow pushing in from the United States.

As for Monday afternoon, temperatures will remain well below normal for early February in Winnipeg and across the south, with highs only reaching the mid to upper minus teens. If that doesn’t already sound cold enough, strong and gusting northwest winds will produce wind chill values that will feel in the -30s.

ECCC has also issued an extreme cold warning in northern Manitoba for the Brochet and Tadoule Lake regions where dangerous wind chill values of -45 or colder are expected on Monday and Tuesday morning.

Ahead Monday night, overnight lows across the province will plummet to the upper -20s and low -30s.

No snow is expected anywhere in Manitoba overnight. Many areas will see clearing conditions throughout the night, mainly in the south.

Tuesday will be very similar to today’s conditions in Winnipeg, but winds will be much lighter.

Snow is expected Wednesday which will help to moderate temperatures.
