A teenage driver is facing charges after he allegedly drove his truck into a school bus carrying children on Wednesday morning.

According to RCMP, officers with the Pembina Valley detachment were called to the two-vehicle crash in the RM of Lorne at roughly 8:30 a.m.

When they arrived, a school bus was on its passenger side in the ditch at Road 28 North and Road 66 West, along with a pickup truck.

The 14 children on the bus, who ranged in age from Kindergarteners to Grade 11 students, were already evacuated. They all sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Some of the students were taken to Winnipeg for further assessment, RCMP said.

According to investigators, the 17-year-old male was driving the pickup truck south on Road 66 West and hit the rear driver’s side of the bus, which was heading east on Road 28 North.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at a hospital

RCMP said he is facing charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
