Windsor students ‘make some noise’ for healthy school food

Students at W.L. Langlois Catholic School took a ‘big bite’ in the name of nutrition this afternoon.

Students at W.L. Langlois Catholic School took a ‘big bite’ in the name of nutrition on Thursday afternoon.

It was the annual ‘Big Crunch’ – held every March, where students across the country take a synchronized bite of an apple to celebrate nutritious school food.

Members of the Windsor Express basketball team offered some nutritional tips and pumped up the crowd.

“Being a part of a community is always at the top of our list - number one,” said Windsor Express Owner Dartis Willis. “When you have an initiative like the Big Crunch, it gets really exciting - not just for the organizers, the kids, but us as well. So, it really ties and binds us to our community… these type of events are very important.”

The initiative began in 2008, and was initially started by FoodShare Toronto. The Big Crunch has since become a coast to coast initiative, advocating for healthy food for school kids across Canada.
