Naval reservists from Windsor-Essex were honoured Saturday morning in a special ceremony for King Charles III Coronation Medal recipients.

Four of the six recipients were on hand to receive the honour in a presentation by the HMCS Hunter.

Lieutenant-Commander Chris Elliott, the Commanding Officer of HMCS Hunter, presided over the ceremony.

“Sometimes we’re unable to give the recognition in a timely manner when it’s due, so this serves as an opportunity to really capitalize on recognizing specific acts of specific members in a timely fashion, where we’ve been able to contribute to our community,“ Elliott said.

The medal commemorates the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada, per the Government of Canada.

Eligible candidates must have made “a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region or community of Canada, or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.”

“So the value in that is people here as reservists are working full-time civilian jobs in our community, and they’re giving up their evenings and sometimes weekends to make sure that we can continue to serve Canada as members of the Royal Canadian Navy,” Elliott said.

In addition to the medals, promotions were announced for two reserve members.
