The Windsor Police Service is emphasizing the importance of vigilance for all road users.

Whether you are walking, riding a motorcycle or bicycle, or driving a car, police have released some road safety tips that are designed to help you protect yourself and others on the road.

For Pedestrians: Walking Safely

• Utilize Crosswalks: Always use marked crosswalks whenever possible.
• Make Eye Contact: Ensure drivers see you by making eye contact before crossing.
• Avoid Risky Crossings: Refrain from crossing outside marked crosswalks, especially in low light or poor weather conditions.
• Be Visible: Wear bright or reflective clothing when walking at night.
• Stay Aware: Keep your focus on the road; avoid using your phone while walking and crossing.
• Understand Visibility: Be aware that headlights from a single vehicle can sometimes reduce your visibility to other drivers.

For Drivers: Driving a Car Safely

• Reduce Speed: Slow down in residential areas and zones with high pedestrian traffic.
• Scan Actively: Look out for pedestrians at all intersections, not just designated crosswalks.
