Potassium Iodide pills available for pick up, nuclear simulation training to take place

Potassium Iodide (KI) pills are available for pick up for residents in the primary and secondary zones of the Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant. This comes as Windsor and Amherstburg prepares to hold a week-long emergency preparedness training drill.

The drill will simulate a nuclear event. You could see more activity and actors with emergency personnel.

While some locations where the training is, some like the Amherstburg Libro Centre and the Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) will just experience temporary disruptions.

According to officials, patient care at WRH won’t be affected.

You are encouraged to check the expiry date on your KI pills. New packages are available at:

• The Libro Centre: 3295 Meloche Road, Amherstburg
• Amherstburg Town Hall: 271 Sandwich Street South, Amherstburg
• Forest Glade Community Centre in the Wildwood Room: 3215 Forest Glade Drive on March 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) Windsor Office: 1005 Ouellette Avenue, Windsor
• WECHU Leamington Office: 33 Princess Street, Leamington

All pick up locations will run on their regular business hours.
