The Windsor Police Service has provided an update on the Wyandotte homicide that took place on Monday. CTV Windsor’s Robert Lothian explains.

Windsor police are urging the public to be cautious as they continue to search for the suspect in a fatal shooting near downtown.

Police have identified 53-year-old Sean Shuart as the victim of the Monday morning shooting outside the H4 on Wyandotte Street East.

On Wednesday, Staff Sgt. Ted Novak told the media they have been unable to identify the suspect but have learned he uses the name “Ty” as an alias.

“We don’t know if that’s a nickname or just a street name, so we’re not putting a lot of credibility into that name at this time,” Novak said.

“The firearm has not been recovered, so we’re stressing to the public that this male is armed and dangerous. We’re actively investigating to identify this male.”

Shuart was found shortly after 7 a.m. unresponsive with a single gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he died.

Police believe a verbal altercation occurred before the shooting. Novak confirmed both Shuart and the suspect had previously used the H4.

They are unsure whether the two individuals had any relationship.

“He is believed to be new to the area and he has accessed a homeless shelter in the previous couple of days,” Novak said, adding they are not sure where he is from.

Using video, police tracked “Ty” moving through the Glengarry area near Brant Street and Assumption Street. The suspect has been seen in multiple outfits and has changed his hairstyle from cornrows to “puffy” hair.

Police described the suspect as a mixed-race male, approximately 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a thin build.

Due to the suspect’s possibly transient lifestyle, Novak noted it is “very difficult” to try and track their whereabouts.

While there is not believed to be a threat to public safety, Novak urged the need for residents to be cautious.

“It appears it’s an isolated incident at this time, so there’s no indication that it’s going to continue,” Novak said.

“But again, there’s a gun on the loose and we’re always concerned for that, for the public.”

Novak stressed those who encounter the suspect should not approach him but instead call 911.
