Novice driver facing several charges after traffic stop

Essex County OPP have charged a novice driver after traffic stop in Lakeshore.

On April 28, 2026, at 11:17 p.m., conducted traffic stop on Amycroft Drive.

The 18-year-old Belle River resident was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code, Cannabis Control Act, Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Licence and Control Act offences:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
• Dangerous operation
• Person under 19 years - possess cannabis
• Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis
• Have care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available
• Novice driver fail to surrender licence
• Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero
• Red light - fail to stop

The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Windsor on June 10, 2026, to answer to the charges.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute for all charged drivers.
