Michigan driver charged with going almost double speed limit on Highway 3

Driver from Michigan has been charged with stunt driving after police say they were travelling nearly double the posted speed limit in Essex County.

On April 9 at 5:38 a.m., an OPP officer was performing a traffic enforcement initiative on Highway 3.

Police say the vehicle was observed travelling a nearly double the posted 80 kilometre per hour speed limit.

As a result, a 20-year-old of Howell, Mich., has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt - Excessive Speed
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

The driver’s licence has been suspended for 30 days and the vehicle has been impounded for 14 days.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Provincial Traffic Court to speak to the charges at a later date.
