LaSalle police are warning the public about scam phone calls involving their number.

Police say they have recently begun to receive phone calls across Canada that someone is cloning their phone number and claiming to be a police officer.

The reason for contacting the recipient ranges for different purposes such as :

  • Identity theft
  • Phone number is associated to crime in China
  • Phone number was used to register a purchase

Possible information the callers already possess:

  • First and last name
  • Address
  • Email address
  • Names of relatives

The callers are female or male with various accents and are attempting to obtain personal information from you.

They could provide a fake badge number and report/occurrence number.

Officers say this is a scam and the LaSalle Police Service would not convey identity theft in this manner. If you receive a similar call, do not release any personal information and promptly hang up the phone.
